stafftool Reports we would love to have

Submitted Feb 19 by Michael Biolsi

This is the place to start listing all of the reports that you would love to see in stafftool. Of course, not all of them may be implemented, but hey... a guy can dream, can't he? 8-)

This is great. I'll look these over and report back my thoughts...some are already underway, and I'll think about the ones that aren't.

PEOPLE TAB: in list view: what about having a printer icon at the right (near edit icon) so that you could print out a bio type report that lists the all of the information about that person. Information could include picture address, IM, web site, email, phones, groups, attendance trends (eventually) If the person printing is an admin with right to view and edit notes, then the notes could also print on the report.

PEOPLE TAB: in the family view: in the gray bar with the family name a printer icon and the ability to print a family report with the same type of information as above.

PHOTO Directory: A family view pint out that has the picture of each family member at a size we can actually see (like 1x1"). I know there is always concern with how many pages long the print out will be, but the pics will really help people get to know others faster. This is a huge need in our fast changing church.

CALENDAR IDEA: hey... what about the ability to view the calendar, or a filtered calendar, and email/PM that to a group of people rather than printing it out?

Hey Mike, can you expand on the calendar sending idea? One possibility is to simply copy and paste the url of the calendar page you'd like to send into the message. The filtering information is embedded in the url itself, so it should work as long as the viewer has the permissions to view it.

Just thinking outside the box for reports. Yeah, we need some printed reports, but going more and more paperless is a good thing. So what if there was a link to email reports like directories and calendars? You could view a calendar by group and then click an option to email that calendar to the group. the format could be dressed up like the other messages that stafftool sends out. Then everyone gets a list/calendar in their inbox even if they cannot subscribe to the calendar. Just another way to communicate. Perhaps even a link at the bottom of the email/pm that they can click to subscribe if the DO have ical, outlook, etc. Thoughts?

WIDOW/ORPHAN control is all that is missing from the directory report to make is useful... any idea when that might be implemented? Other stuff like bigger images is fluff right now, but I am desperately needing a print out.

Hey Mike. So I've been trying for the last hour or so to come up with a solution for this...here's where I'm at right now. So far, the only browser that somewhat honors the CSS rule for not breaking within an element (a family block, for instance) is Opera. So, I've got Opera fired up and I'm trying a bunch of stuff to try to get it to work. Every time I've think I've made progress with it, there's always something that stands in the way of it actually being a true solution...I haven't given up yet, though, there are a few more things I'm going to try...but at this point it's proving to be a pretty difficult task.

In the meantime, though, you can try out the latest version I just deployed in Opera and see if it's any better. From what I can see, it's better, but not perfect yet. It seems like it breaks on most of the family household groups, but not all for some reason. So I'm still trying to figure it out...it's pretty disappointing that the browsers just can't get these rules supported...I'm afraid that the final solution is just going to have to be a PDF export. But let me know if this helps.
