Applying Changes to entire household

Submitted Apr 21 by Michael Biolsi

Something I have been dealing with a LOT where we live is people moving. We have a lot of military families, so transition is normal. Many of them move just a town over but still attend the church. When I get their new address I have to go in to each family member's record and update the preferred address. For a family of 6 it can be a bit annoying. I was wondering about an option to "Update all related people" so that anyone you have built a relationship link to will have their information changed as well. Could work with phone number also.

I am thinking something like...

  • If you edit the preferred address or preferred phone for the Primary Contact a pop-up would appear asking if you would like this information applied to all of the other members of the household.
  • Maybe the Published check box could/should also behave this way for private/public listings

I may be the only one with this need... so please speak up!

The other editing function that should apply to an entire household would be deleting an entire household versus individual members. That has been requested here: http://support.stafftool.com/forums/3023/entrie...

Yeah, I can see how this would be tedious. I'll give some thought to how to go about making this easier...the only issue I can think of off the top of my head would be when another head of household is included within someone else's household via a parent-child relationship. However, I could just make it so the household update skips over anyone who is head of their own household or something along those lines.

How about skipping linked addresses which are different? That way you would also leave in tact an address of a dependent not living at home.

Yeah, that's an idea too Sam...I'll play with some different methods.
